Director Indra Kumar wanted to create a grand romantic comedy featuring top Bollywood actors in one film, similar to Hollywood-style comedy dramas.
The idea was to make a movie showing:

The film was also intended to revive the trend of multi-starrer romantic entertainers in the 90s.

The film’s soundtrack became hugely popular, especially “Neend Churai Meri”, which was later remade as “Maine Tujhko Dekha”.
